Edinburgh Iranian Festival to open with Kiarostami’s ‘24 Frames’

‘24 Frames’ by late-great Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami has been selected to be screened at the opening ceremony of the 2019 Edinburgh Iranian Festival in Scotland.

Ahmad Kiarostami, the son of the late director, will attend the ceremony and join a session for reviewing his father’s movie.

‘24 Frames’ is an experimental film that includes 24 still images every one of which lasts for 4:30 minutes.

Abbas Kiarostami, who has died in July 2016, was an Iranian film director, whose ‘Taste of Cherry’ grabbed the Palme d’Or at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival in France.

The Edinburgh festival will host a collection of 16 Iranian movies and short films, including ‘Bomb a Love Story’ directed by Peyman Maadi, ‘Hendi & Hormoz’ by Abbas Amini, and ‘African Violet’ by Mona Zandi.

The Edinburgh Iranian Festival belongs to a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organization. The festival aims to increase understanding of Iranian culture, history and people, at a time when perceptions of the country in the Western world are heavily skewed by politics.

The festival is scheduled to take place in the Scottish capital on March 1-7, 2019.
